In term 1 we went on an excursion to the western treatment plant to look at how the sewerage and sewage system works, and to get some facts for writing our explanation texts. When we first got there, we went inside to the main building, and we couldn't believe our eyes, there was a massive map of melbourne made out of glass on the floor, and the first thing we noticed was that the western treatment plant was exactely the same size as port philip bay. Once we had a look at that we moved onto a display that explained how the sewerage system works. I think this helped me alot with my explanation text for it had facts on the sides of it. After that we went on to what was called the river story. It was about a river that kept on getting polluted by the characters in the story (us). The set up was there was a bowl of water on a table cloth on the floor (river) and we were handed out these containers that had stuff that polluted the river. I was a city person so when my turn in the story came I had to open my container and put whatever was in there into the water, and guess what came out, smoked cigarettes!!! Then I had to stir it round although I don't see why I needed to stir it anyway. Next we went on the tour where we saw how sewage is treated, I got most out of this for my explanation text.
Advertising unit excursion
In term 2 we went on an excursion to the Vic Market to look at different forms of advertising and thinking how could we use them for advertising the Mini Market. When we first got there we went to the fruit and veg section and noticed something amazingly interesting, the organic section worked more on presentation than volume, yet that section was more expensive than the normal fruit and veg section, and also that the non-organics section just dumps anything anywhere to get more volume. Next we headed over to the meat area, and we noticed the same thing with organics and the no-organics, this was getting rather interesting. After that we went over to the deli section, and we realised that the food was at the eye level for a grown up, this ment we could always see the food and products they're selling no matter how crowded it may be. Next we went back over to the fruit and veg area, you'd be suprised how much you can get for only just $2 I ended up getting a punnet of strawberrys to share with Connor (because we both payed since they were $3 a punnet) and a carrot. We finished off the day at a very fun park. I had enjoyed myself alot.
